Details

Pan Pac Eskdale MTB Park is a premier mountain biking destination situated within a vibrant working plantation forest in Eskdale, just north of Napier in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. This exceptional park, managed by the local club within an active forestry operation, offers a unique and exhilarating experience amidst a classic New Zealand pine forest environment. It distinguishes itself as one of the country's largest mountain bike parks, featuring an intricate network of climbing trails and flowing descents across diverse terrain. Following extensive damage from Cyclone Gabrielle in February 2023, considerable efforts have led to the establishment of new tracks in the Waipunga Block and the restoration of others in the Replanted Block, ensuring its continued appeal for visitors.

Visitors to the park can navigate a vast network of over 71km of tracks and connecting forestry roads, meticulously designed to engage and challenge every rider. The trails present a varied landscape, from fast-flowing singletrack to wider, more accessible forestry roads, accommodating all skill levels with grades ranging from easy to black diamond (Grade 2 to 6). Highlights include impressive panoramas of the Esk Valley and stunning ocean views, particularly accessible from the Waipunga Block tracks. Specific trails such as Cannonball Lector, Rimrock, and Scooby Doo offer distinct riding experiences, while dedicated climbing tracks like Beam Me up, Enterprise, and Warpspeed ascend to elevated sections of the park. Access to this remarkable facility is strictly by permit, which can be obtained through the Hawke's Bay Mountain Bike Club.

This diverse park is perfectly suited for a wide array of mountain bikers, from novices finding their footing to seasoned enthusiasts seeking demanding challenges. Families will particularly appreciate the selection of trails that cater to various abilities, promising a fun and active outing for all members. It provides an excellent setting for a full day of invigorating pedalling amidst the beautiful natural surroundings of the pine forest. Those seeking an adrenaline rush can tackle steep, technical Grade 5 trails, including Horseshoe, Rimrock, and Cliffhanger, offering an advanced riding experience. Overall, Pan Pac Eskdale MTB Park's combination of well-maintained tracks, breathtaking scenery, and varied difficulty levels guarantees a memorable and exhilarating outdoor adventure for everyone.

Really good tracks here. Does get slippery after rain, let it dry out for a day or so and it's all good.

The new park (post cyclone Gabrielle) opens April 6th 2024 and is accessed via Waipunga road, off SH5 Esk Valley. Turn into Waipunga road, cross the bridge then turn right into the first forestry road, and follow this to the carpark. No tracks remain in the Mill Block off SH2.

Amazing trails, surprisingly technical at times. Must try but be warned.

A good park over all with trails ranging from easy to black Diamond. but the park could do with some upgrades and modifications. Plus many tracks are closed at the moment. Well worth a visit and I ride there often. A pass is required to enter the forest. See the Hawkes Bay Mountain Bike Club for details and were to by annual and casual passes.

Great park, $10 for a 3 week visitor permit, my 8 and 10 year olds like it too, great signage, great challenges, well maintained tracks, amazing ocean views from the top, hear the birds chirping and the frogs croaking, nice carpark at entrance, take plenty of water in this heat!
