Clive Square is a central city park and recreation space, offering a tranquil and beautiful escape within Napier, New Zealand. This historic garden provides a serene atmosphere with its well-manicured green spaces, acting as a calm pocket amidst the city's lively Art Deco streets. Conceived in 1854 with the intention of recreating an English village green, it transformed into the woodland garden seen today, blending old-world formality with Napier's distinct charm.
The square features a large lily pond, home to a number of goldfish, and is adorned with various species of palm trees, including Prickly Cycads and Moreton Bay Figs. Visitors can enjoy melodies from the Centennial Carillon, a 1974 gift, which plays daily between 11:30 am and 2 pm. Additionally, the elegant Blythe Memorial Fountain, a Category 2 Historic Place, stands near the southern entrance, adding to the park's heritage appeal. On Saturday mornings, the Napier Urban Farmers' Market brings a lively buzz, and during warmer months, the square doubles as an outdoor concert venue.
This delightful space is ideal for those seeking a peaceful retreat, whether for quiet contemplation or a relaxing picnic on its immaculate lawns. It suits visitors who appreciate historic gardens, unique plant life, and local community events, serving as a perfect respite during a day exploring Napier's city centre. Families and groups will find the abundant seating and central location particularly appealing, offering a convenient spot to unwind.

Well done to those who keep this as it is.
There isn't a playground there, but enough other things to keep young kids entertained. Our kids loved just running around like crazy, and splashing around the water in the center fountain.
Although it's not somewhere if say is worth making a special detour to see, if you are in Napier CBD it's well worth a short stroll to go and see.
