If you can ignore the sound of the passing traffic, this is a very tranquil spot. The carvings are beautiful. It's worth stopping for a while to read the information boards and take in the scenery. Cyclone Gabrielle 2023. The Star Compass itself, has survived the terrible flood damage that surrounds it.

Update 2025
Public toilets now on site.

Great place to walk on a bright autumn-summer day. The park is a sacred park and has great Maori wood carvings.

Good walk when nice weather and can be very windy. Went there fishing and it seems to be very popular spot. Please don't swim in the river even it looks quite, but you can be surprise with very strong current.
