Extremely disappointing and stressful experience at Shoreline Motel, Napier.
While we were at the beach, someone attempted to break into our car. When we returned, I noticed a permanent resident outside on the phone. Just two minutes after we went inside, CCTV showed three teenagers entering the property, stealing our car and driving away. I strongly suspect information about guests was being passed around, although I cannot prove who was involved.
Our car was later recovered badly damaged — rear tyres destroyed, windscreen damaged, and more.
What made it worse was the motel management’s lack of support. We were dealing with a stolen car, yet they were still trying to charge us extra for late checkout.
I appreciate that they provided the CCTV, but overall, I would not stay here again.
If something feels off or you feel like someone is watching you, trust your gut and leave. I’d recommend booking somewhere in Hastings, especially around Frimley near the hospital.
The lady at Reception was friendly and efficient, and offered good directions to my room. Plenty of parking, even at night after coming back from dinner. My room was on the second story, and had a really decent view over the road to the ocean. Outdoor seating area was a nice place to have a wine before dinner. Only a 1min walk to the ocean, and a short walk into the CBD.
The room is not going to win any style awards, but it was for the most part clean and everything worked as it should. The Motel had really decent internet, and I had no issues streaming shows.
I was worried about road noise from the often busy Marine Parade, but this was not an issue at all. Unfortunately there was a party on the other side of the Motel complex which kept many of us up well past 10pm. After talking with the neighboring room, we found the after-hours number and called it. The lady said she had tried to tell them to be quiet several times already, and they were not listening and she didn't know what to do. I'm kinda like, it's your place!! If they are not listening, kick them out. Call the Police. Do something!! People have paid good money to sleep. One room shouldn't hold every other room to ransom. Within a minute of my call I could hear someone yelling at them to be quiet again. Thankfully this time they listened, and it was quiet for the rest of the night.
The bed was comfortable, but really really low to the ground. Linen was crisp and white.
Unfortunately the carpet was absolutely disgusting and well past its use by date. No Rug Doctor is going to fix that. It needs ripping up and replacing. It was a shame, as everything else was really clean. The in room Spa Bath was a nice touch.
I would definitely stay here again if the price was right. But that carpet… yuck!
1/ no large spa
2/ no shower cubicle but a climb in bath tub shower
3/ no outdoor seating as we had in the room on the top floor.
