We had a very bad experience. There is absolutely no security at this campsite: outsiders (homeless people from Hastings) come and go freely, using the showers and kitchen facilities. They go through the fridges and steal food from guests.
We had meat, aluminium foil, milk, and flour stolen, for a total of over $40 in just 3 days. The first time, we reported it to reception. Thanks to the cameras, we were able to identify the thieves (two men), and we even saw them cooking our meat on a barbecue. They were squatting in a caravan where people live year-round.
The next day, we were robbed again. We reported it once more, but despite multiple complaints and clear evidence, nothing was done. The thieves continued without any consequences.
The receptionist told us they were no longer on site, which was false. We saw them again that same evening, including in the kitchen stealing food again. When we reacted, one of the men threatened us with a knife.
We immediately went back to reception and called the police. Despite the seriousness of the situation, no real action was taken. We were again told they had been removed, but we saw them again that same night.
We couldn’t afford to stay elsewhere as accommodation prices were too high, but given the dangerous situation and the complete lack of response from management, we eventually decided to leave.
It is unacceptable for a campsite to allow such a situation to happen. Lying to customers about safety and the presence of dangerous individuals is irresponsible and unacceptable…..
